Alternative Education programs are designed to meet the needs of public school students in grades 6-12 who have not been successful in the traditional setting. Students are provided with a variety of options that can lead to graduation and are supported by services essential to success.

Students may have multiple Alternative Education records. However, Alternative Education dates may not overlap one another. Before creating a new record, all previous records must be end dated and assigned a Reason Exited status.

In order to report a valid record, be sure to enter a start date, program meeting time, program eligibility, and program name. Once the student has exited the program, users MUST enter an End Date and Reason Exited for the student.

Start Date

Use this field to enter the date on which the student began the alternative education program.

End Date

Use this field to enter the date on which the student completed the alternative education program. This field may be left blank if the program is ongoing or the student has not yet completed the program. 

To ensure proper reporting, once an End Date is entered for the student's participation in the program, be sure to enter a Reason Exited status for the student.

Reason Exited

Use this field to enter the reason for which the student exited the Alternative Education program.

To ensure proper reporting, be sure to enter an End Date is entered for the student.

Program Meeting Time

The Program Meeting Time indicates the time the student meets with their Alternative Education Teacher/Counselor. If the meeting time changes during program participation, be sure to update the meeting time here.

The Program Name field allows the user to select the state-approved alternative education program in which the student is participating.
