ELA, Mathematics, Science - BIE Consolidated Report Card

The English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science sections of the BIE Consolidated Report Card details the participation and proficiency levels of BIE students who participated in the Bureau-wide annual assessment. The overall participation goal established by the BIE is a participation rate of 95% or higher for each of the three sections.

Logic

This section of the BIE Consolidated Report Card uses student data records stored on the certification table of the BIE Assessment Data Mart. Additional logic can be reviewed in the Logic section of the BIE Assessment Data Mart article.

Calculations:

Participation Calculation 

The participation rate is based on the number of students who are enrolled within the school for the entire testing window and take the annual assessment. If a student is enrolled with the school during the entire testing window and does not complete one or more items, the student will be included in the non-participation calculation.

Proficiency Calculation

Proficiency indicates what level of understanding students have reached based on a standard assessment and is broken down by student demographic subgroups.

Individual School Calculation:

(Sum of students in subgroup /Sum of 'All Students')*100

BIE Calculation:

(Sum of students in subgroup (across all BIE schools) / Sum of 'All Students' (across all BIE schools))*100

Participation

Participation reflects the number of students who have participated in the Bureau-wide annual assessment. Student's who do not take the assessment will be counted as a non-participant in the participation calculation.

If a student is enrolled within the school during the entire testing window and does not complete one or more items, the student will be counted as a nonparticipant. Proficiency

Proficiency reflects the level of understanding students have reached based on a standard assessment. Proficiency standards include: Exceeds, Meets, Below and Well Below. Students who make up the "Exceeds" or "Meets" percentages have demonstrated an understanding at or above the standard for their grade level. For this, a bar chart is used.

Proficiency Example - Mathematics

If a demographic subgroup has ten or less students, a lock icon will display for the subgroup to protect student privacy and prevent student identification.
