The Kindergarten Readiness tool lists a series of checkboxes that indicate the student is prepared for Kindergarten. This information reports on the Kindergarten Readiness Extract within the first 60 days of the school year.
For each student enrolled in State Grade Level 006: Half Day Kindergarten or 007: Full Day Kindergarten, determine if the student is meeting or exceeding expectations in the following areas. If it is determined that yes, the student is meeting or exceeding expectations, mark that checkbox.
Physical/Motor Development
Physical and motor development includes the growth and strengthening of a child's bones, muscles and ability to move and touch his/her surroundings. For example, if a child is able to crawl or walk (gross motor skills), he/she can more easily explore their physical environment, which affects cognitive development.
Social and Emotional Development
Social-emotional development includes the child's experience, expression, and management of emotions and the ability to establish positive and rewarding relationships with others. These skills include the ability to manage feelings and impulses, listen to instructions, make friends, etc.
Language and Comprehension Development
Language comprehension includes the interaction among someone’s background knowledge, vocabulary, language structures like grammar, verbal reasoning abilities, and literary knowledge, plus the ability to process spoken language.
Cognition
Cognitive development is the construction of thought processes, including remembering, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
Mathematics
Mathematical Development consists of children's progressive development of concepts, skills, knowledge and understanding in solving mathematical problems s communicating mathematically s reasoning mathematically.
Literacy
Litteracy development is the process of learning words, sounds, and language. Children develop literacy skills in order to learn to read and write confidently and eventually improve their communication skills overall.
