The California CTE tab is used to track data for Career Tech Education (CTE) students. After a record is saved, all fields remain editable.
To be sure CTE students are properly reported, a record should be created for any student who is in a California-designated CTE program with a program status of: Concentrator or Completer.
Fields in the CA CTE Editor are unique to California. Please see below for more information.

CTE Pathway
A coded value representing a Career Technical Education Career Pathway. A Career Technical Education Career Pathway is the second level in a two-tier hierarchy of Career Technical Education Industry Sectors and Career Pathways. This category represents a coherent sequence of rigorous academic and technical courses that allows students to apply academics and develop technical skills in a curricular area. Career pathways prepare students for successful completion of state academic and technical standards and more advanced postsecondary course work related to the career in which they are interested. A pathway must be specified for each CTE concentrator.
Please see the CDE-published CALPADS Code Sets document for more information on assigning Pathway selections.
Concentrator
A CTE concentrator is a student who has completed 50 percent of a planned program sequence (in hours or credits) in a state-recognized CTE sequence and is enrolled in the next course in that sequence, or has completed 50 percent of a single state-recognized multi-hour course and is enrolled in the second half of that course.
Economically Disadvantaged
Economically Disadvantaged students are described as individuals from economically disadvantaged families, including foster children. This includes Board of Governor’s Grant, Pell Grant, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Workforce Investment Act, Supplemental Security Income, General/Public Assistance, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and other persons with income below the poverty level as defined by the 2008-2009 Income Eligibility Guidelines for Free and Reduced-Price Meals.
Single Parent
The term "single parents" includes single pregnant women.
Displaced Homemaker (Adult Ed)
The term 'displaced homemaker' means an individual who: has worked primarily without remuneration to care for a home and family, and for that reason has diminished marketable skills; has been dependent on the income of another family member but is no longer supported by that income; or is a parent whose youngest dependent child will become ineligible to receive assistance under part A of title IV of the Social Security Act not later than 2 years after the date on which the parent applies for assistance under such title; and is unemployed or underemployed and is experiencing difficulty in obtaining or upgrading employment. Checking this option indicates the student is a displaced homemaker.
This option is used only for district-tracking purposes and is not used in state reporting.
Pathway Completion Date
A unique identifier assigned to the Academic Year in which a Career Technical Education secondary concentrator completed a specific Career Technical Education Pathway (passed a locally developed and administered assessment, demonstrating competence in a specific career technical education course sequence.)
